Sometimes tree leaves will leaves, a natural proces of renewal. Needle type leaves of evergreen can yellow and die to make room for new growth as well. This may happen every 3 years or so. There may be other reason for yellowing, or browning of woody plants leaves.

It seems there are a few reasons for white pines to have a problem or not? Here is the scoop from Cornell: http://plantclinic.cornell.edu/features/2013/mar2013.htmlhttp://www.plantpath.cornell.edu/Trees/WPBRust.html
