Q

COCO DE MER

I read in a 111-year old newspaper (NY Herald, March 11, 1906) that a Coco de Mer from the Seychelles was now "a fine specimen with leaves about 5 feet in length". I wondered if it is still in the NYBG, or died off many years ago. I have attached a small part of the article, which refers to the palm. I grew up in Seychelles, hence my interest.

Thank you for your question, but, unfortunately, Lodoicea maldivica no longer remains in our collections, according to our plant records department.

We are sorry we could not be more helpful.
