Q

Where can I buy honeysuckle? Does the garden grow honeysuckle?

Hello,

Does the botanical garden have the honeysuckle plant? If yes, I would really like to visit whenever they are available which would be during the cooler months but either way I would just like to know if the garden grows them or not. Thank you very much.

Answer

Yes, NYBG does grow different species of honeysuckle. They are listed in our new garden navigator web link which give information on the location and flowering scheudule.

One plant Lonicera fragrantissima, Blooms in March to April

More below, see the list and click on botanical name for more information:

More info on Lonicera fragrantissima:

Please note that some species of honeysuckle are considered invasive in the northeastern United States.  Please be extremely careful when selecting a species.  Known invasive species include Japanese honeysuckle, Lonicera japonica, and bush honeysuckles Lonicera maackii and Lonicera morrowii.  L. fragrantissima can persist from cultivation, but is not known to spread by seed.

The species in blue on these maps are known from the literature to be invasive and/or persist from cultivation:
