NYBG trees that stand tallest and oldest:

Our tallest and ‘biggest’ tree (keep in mind there are various ways to calculate “largest” tree) is a tulip tree in the Azalea Garden – the exact accession # is 24815*AT, which you can see if you zoom in on Garden Navigator (see below).

The black oak in the triangle just south of the Azalea Garden is estimated to be over 200 years old but there’s a red oak on Spicebush Trail in the Thain Forest that is purportedly older than that.
