Answer

Gardens are important because in them people can create beautiful surroundings, express their artistic talents with design, make areas for fun and relaxation - and in a vegetable or herb garden they can grow their own food! Gardens can also provide refuge for wildlife and food for animals including birds, pollinators and other insects as well as native plants. Home gardeners can support biodiversity by adding native plants, supporting pollinators, and create an environment that supports the needs of wildlife.

At The New York Botanical Garden, we grow more than just plants—we grow programs, creativity, and people too. Through inquiry-based methods, children and teachers engage in experiences with plants and the natural world, which will help them to construct understandings of plants, their cultural uses, and their overall importance to life on Earth. https://www.nybg.org/learn/schools-teachers/

Mission

The New York Botanical Garden is an advocate for the plant kingdom. The Garden pursues its mission through its role as a museum of living plant collections arranged in gardens and landscapes across its National Historic Landmark site; through its comprehensive education programs in horticulture and plant science; and through the wide-ranging research programs of the International Plant Science Center.
