Answer

Some orchids may need more humidity. Accomplish this by using a pebble tray to add a micro-climate of high humidity around the plant(s). Orchids like Oncidium grow in many different habitats and are found in humid, hot tropical lowlands to cool and misty mountains, and some species grow in desert-like climates. Humidity needs for most species is 50 to 60 percent, although popular orchids such as the moth orchid (Phalaenopsis) can take low humidity as well. Gentle air movement is advisable when higher humidity is needed by such orchids as the Vanda species. Small fans can be used for home orchid growing.
