When watering orchids, rain water or filtered water can be used, although tap water at room temperature is fine. When using tap water, it is best to fill a container with water and set it out overnight to help release the chlorine. Plants are less active in the winter and require less water. In the spring and summer, when growth is active, more water may be necessary. Once or twice a week is normal, although some orchids such as Vanda require their roots to stay moist, although they shouldn't stand in water.
