When should I divide my peonies?
Herbaceous peonies should be divided in the fall. Cut off old foliage, lift the clumps carefully, and using a hose, gently remove all soil. Cut the crown into divisions using a sharp knife or spade. Each division should consist of 3-4 roots and 3-5 eyes (buds). The outside of the clump yields the best divisions.
Multi-stemmed tree peonies can be divided in a similar manner. Single-stemmed tree peonies cannot be divided.
