When are the lilacs in bloom?
Answer
The lilacs at The New York Botanical Garden (Zone 7) usually bloom in mid-April, some in May, but the timing also depends on the weather. Cooler temperatures can stall the bloom time to later in April; warmer weather will force earlier flowering.
Lilacs (Syringa spp.) are among the most hardy garden plants. Although many lilac varieties bloom in mid-spring, commonly around May, there are some early-blooming varieties. Combining early-blooming varieties with later-blooming lilacs will extend the lilac flowering period in your garden. Check out our list of lilacs here.
