Should I use a wound dressing or paint on pruning cuts?

Answer

Contrary to older gardening practice, it is now not advised to paint pruning cuts with wound dressing. Let the cut heal naturally instead. The key to good wound closure is proper pruning: make a smooth clean cut just beyond the branch collar (the point where a branch joins the trunk or another branch).
