What are the best bonsai trees to grow?

Answer

The best trees to grow as a bonsai  are hardy ones such as juniper (Juniperus), pine (Pinus), elm (Ulmus) Japanese maple (Acer), holly (Ilex), boxwood (Buxus), Ginkgo, Cryptomeria and Cotoneaster. Some possible tropical and subtropical trees are fig (Ficus), myrtle (Myrtus), Serissa (snowrose), Fukien tea (Ehretia monopyrena ), Podocarpus, azaleas, Camellia, Gardenia, and pomegranate (Punica granatum).

Be sure to remember that bonsai made from hardy trees will still need a winter dormancy period of low temperatures. Their health will suffer if you keep them indoors, without a rest, over the winter.
