Canna, commonly called canna-lily, also known as Indian shot, is hardy to more tropical areas and Asian forests. There are many beautiful flower colors to choose from, ranging from light pinks to deep reds, yellows, golds and more.

Grow outdoors in full sun from summer to autumn. Cannas are normally hardy to zones 8-11, where they may be left in situ during winter, protected with a deep dry mulch. Water freely in dry spells during the growing season, and deadhead to ensure continuous flowering.

Where not hardy, plant out in early summer. When cooler weather approaches in late fall, the foliage will blacken. At that time remove stems and foliage and lift the rhizomes for winter storage. Store in barely moist peat, vermiculite or oak leaf mold in a frost-free area. In late spring or early summer, divide rhizomes into sections, each with a prominent "eye."
