When will the Herb Garden be at peak? I am patiently waiting for lush and fragrant foliage!

Answer

Good afternoon,

Great question!  In short, the Nancy Bryan Herb Garden, like many other NYBG gardens, has seasonal interest almost all year long (all year, if you are including snow!).

Starting in mid-Spring, the herb garden begins to leaf out and offer fragrant folliage for visitors to enjoy.  This year, as early as May there will be some activity, and plants will "wake up."  This time of year, the highlight is potted primroses featured in the Auricula Theater (http://www.nybg.org/gardens/herb-garden/).  That said, although there is definite activity in Spring, mid to late Summer is when the herb garden really fills out and comes into its own.

Our advice to you is to enjoy this space in every season!  But, if what you are looking for is a very full and fragrant garden visit, Summer is the best time.  You can read more about this history and plantings in the Nancy Bryan Herb Garden here: http://libguides.nybg.org/luceherbgarden

Regards,
