When should I prune forsythia?

Answer

Forsythias are shrubs that flower on old wood, i.e. on  shoots produced in the previous growing season. They should be pruned immediately after they have bloomed so that there will be time for new wood and buds to develop for next year's spring showy display. If pruned in early spring before flowering, flower buds will be removed.

Again, forsythias will produce more flowers if this pruning is done every year right after flowering in spring, then prune for needed shaping if desired. Waiting too long will remove next springs bloom.
