Q. How do I propagate Pandanus, screw pine?

Answer

They’re easy. Ripe seed is red/orange. They should be cleaned and soaked in water for 2-4 days and planted at a depth of 1-2 inches. Sometimes a dusting of fungicide is beneficial to prevent rot. Everybody has a preferred medium- I used to use ½ potting soil and ½ coarse sand with some bottom heat provided by a heat mat. I kept the medium moist and usually saw germination in a month to a month and a half. Some will germinate earlier or later and it’s ok to check the seed with a finger to make sure it hasn’t turned to mush.
