Houseplants that are low maintenance, need only moderate light and moderate amounts of water include:

  • Aspidistra elatior (cast iron plant)
  • Elettaria cardamomum (cardamon)
  • Fatshedera lizei (botanical wonder)
  • Haworthia
  • Dracaena, formerly called Sansevieria (snake plant)
  • Peperomia -- green-leaved varieties (need plentiful water during growing period)
  • Scindapsus and Epipremnum -- green-leaved varieties (pothos)
  • Zamioculcas zamiifolia (zz plant)
