Tiny thrips (Thysanoptera) feed by puncturing their host and sucking out the cell contents. Some of the many species of thrips are beneficial predators that feed only on mites and other insects. Many others are pests. These are best controlled with integrated pest management techniques. 

Recommended techniques include not planting susceptible plants near weedy areas, pruning old growth and removing spent flowers, applying insecticidal soaps and oils, using sticky traps, use of physical barriers, and conserving beneficial insect populations.
