When can I prune my privet hedge?
Answer
Ligustrum ovalifolium can be pruned in early spring and in summer (trimming in July). Use a string along the top to make the task easier. Cutting and pruning is a time-consuming task, but privet is a very forgiving shrub. Improper pruning will often result in specimens that topple over after a heavy snowstorm. Prune the hedge wider at the bottom, so the sun can shine bottom to top and it will eventually fill out.

Note: Electric trimmers are much lighter than gas ones, and more eco-friendly too.
