When is the best time to transplant hellebore?
Answer
Helleborus, commonly called hellebore, is a member of the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae). The most common, H. niger (Christmas rose) and H. orientalis (Lenten rose), are great garden plants in a semi-shady location. Most hellebores are semi-evergreen and are left standing during the winter.
Transplant or plant out in spring. Conditions the soil with a layer of compost. Do not plant too deeply as this may impair flowering. Plant just below the surface, with growing tips just at the surface. Remove any leaves with black areas caused by botrytis and other possible fungal problems as needed.
