Q. When is the Heliconia in bloom?
Answer
We have several different heliconia species in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. While these plants tend to flower sporadically throughout the year, April to June is probably their peak time. In our living collection data base there are 22 heliconias listed, for example 'Yellow Christmas', 'Lobster Claw One', 'Gold', 'Purpurea', 'Fire Flash', 'Peru', 'Orange Gyro', 'Frosty', 'Andromeda', and 'Lady Di'.
