Can you recommend a source for cactus and succulent garden gravel?

On several occasions I have admired your cactus display in the conservatory. I am currently constructing a small, 6'x8' succulent garden in my New Jersey home and I'd like to replicate your use of rock edging and gravel surfacing. I'd much appreciate your help in finding a source for these materials.I thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Answer

At the NYBG, we buy expanded shale aggregate from Norlite Corporation in Cohoes, NY.

However, I am not sure if they sell the big boulders we use as edging. I believe we have had those for many years. You can ask what sizes they have available. Judging from the size of your garden, it doesn’t sound like you will have space for very large boulders anyway.
