Are wild strawberries native to Long Island?

Answer

Wild strawberries, Fragaria vesca (wood strawberry) and F. virginiana (wild strawberry) are wide-spread in the Northeast. There is evidence that they were eaten by Native Americans on Long Island before European colonization and they are considered native to all 48 of the continental United States.
