How do I propagate Pandanus (screw pine or screw palm)?

Answer

They’re easy!

Ripe seed is red/ orange. They should be cleaned and soaked in water for 2 - 4 days and planted at a depth of 1 - 2 inches. Sometimes a dusting of fungicide is beneficial to prevent rot.

Everybody has a preferred growing medium -  ½ potting soil and ½ coarse sand is a good combination, with some bottom heat provided by a heat mat. Keep the medium moist and usually germination occurs in a month to a month and a half. Some will germinate earlier or later and it’s okay to check the seed with a finger to make sure it hasn’t turned to mush.
