The best website varies considerably with the topic. When we are researching a horticultural question, we begin with NYBG's internal resources including our plant information staff, library, horticultural staff and scientists.  When we use online resources, we are primarily looking for the scientific or educational institution with the greatest experience with the subject or for amateur sources with a high level of experience.  The state cooperative extension system and government sources are in many cases great resources. Some plant societies have excellent information as do some other botanical gardens.
