Where can I find help with beekeeping?

Answer

NYBG had hives at the Family Garden Center until major re-construction of those gardens began in 2016. We did have experts on staff and resources for starting and keeping colonies. (Here is a link to beekeeping entries in the NYBG blog.) At the moment we can not offer those resources but there are useful local associations that can offer help.

New York City Beekeepers Association http://www.bees.nyc/

“an evergrowing group of beekeepers, bee enthusiasts, and honey lovers who live, work and pollinate in the greatest city in the world, and who happen to share a love for the humble honeybee and her delicious doings.  The mission of the NYCBA is to provide our members with a medium for sharing knowledge and mutual interest in beekeeping, and to educate and promote the benefits of beekeeping to the world, in a forum of friendship and fun, and to do so safely and responsibly in an urban environment.”

NYC Beekeeping .org https://www.meetup.com/nyc-beekeeping/about/

“As our membership passes 1800 (!), our purpose remains the same: to bring people together around this exciting and increasingly popular endeavor and ensure that all beekeepers in NYC have access to superior training and mentoring on a range of practices for Responsible Urban Beekeeping™, regardless of ability to pay.”
