What are your favorite unique houseplants?

I am not always reliable about misting and staying on top of watering.

Answer

It's tough to narrow down a list of favorites!

If you are looking for something different, there are a number of choices for low light situations; you cannot go wrong with a ZZ Plant, any number of philodendrons and other aroids (Monstera, Spathiphyllum, Aglaonema), and even Dracaena (snake plant). Odd ferns like staghorn ferns, bear paw fern (Phlebodium) or a bird's nest fern (Asplenium) can be wonderful.

For brighter light, succulents offer an endless variety of options (Echeveria, Sansevieria, string of hearts, Gasteria, Haworthia).

For unusual growth habits, I love Rhipsalis and related cacti for their sculptural looks.

For larger tree like plants, Ficus neriifolia, Ficus elastica, and Dracaena offer some great options.

The best thing to do is look at the amount of light you have, the amount of water and humidity you can provide, and your space and then talk to your local houseplant supplier. They can help you choose the perfect plant for you and your location.
