My snake plant has mushy leaves. What can I do?

Answer

If your snake plant has mushy leaves either the leaves have been frozen or the plant is rotting from over-watering. Even plants on windowsills can freeze near windows indoors in winter. If the leaves are watery and mushy often with a bad odor they might have rotted from over watering. Snake plants can tolerate very dry conditions and under-watering is better than over-watering for these durable succulent plants. They need reduced water during the winter when you should only give water when you see the leaves slightly lose some rigidity.
